The crying child is based on Bruno Amadio’s widely reproduced Crying Boy series, painted under the name Giovanni Bragolin and once a familiar presence in homes across former Yugoslavia. Later surrounded by an urban legend that the image was cursed and mysteriously survived house fires, it already carried an undertone of unease. Here, that domestic nostalgia is turned inside out: the child is placed beneath falling bombs, transforming a sentimental household icon into an image of inherited fear and endangered childhood.
